This is the 100th anniversary of Einstein’s theory of relativity, which described the equivalency of matter and energy in the well known E = mc² equation. Einstein explained that the equation E = mc², in which energy is equal to mass multiplied by the square of the velocity of light, showed that small amounts of mass may be converted into a very large amount of energy.
