Mosaic of Thought was a book that changed my understanding of my own reading strategies. I agree with you, Ruth, and I recommend it to anyone who might want to take a reflective look at the reading process. I'll check out the Gallagher book as well. Thank you.

What an excellent post. You've taken my scattered thinking and have focused it in on the main points of an EXCELLENT READING TEACHER. Thank you!

Our school district has adopted a framework of reading and writing workshop for our language arts instruction. It's exciting . . . and yet there's so much work on the horizon. It's tough to consider the mass amount of systemic change that is needed.

What books have you read about reading workshop? May I suggest Mosaic of Thought by Keene & Zimmerman? I also appreciated Kelly Gallagher's Reading Reasons, in which he lays out several focus lessons for reading workshop.

Thanks again for your thoughts,
Ruth

To be honest, I'm not quite *there* yet, either. But I'm hoping to map the territory here so I have a clearer idea of how it might look. I'm with you - working out the formative assessment piece(s) - always a work in progress. More to come, yes, thanks.
