I have this book I got from a girlfriend who teaches , by Laura Robb.
It's called Differentiating Reading Instruction. I found this book easy to understand and easy to teach.
I taught kindergarten and grade 1 years before I was a mother, and thought I may home school my children soon. I told my girl friend about this and she has been trying to encourage me to do so.

Thought I would pass along the info for anyone else out there thinking or doing the same.

On her Website, she has numerous tips, as well as an Ask Laura column where you can her the author anything you want - which I have found helpful.

We'd enjoy a trip to Yosemite. But I think "someone" would want to go bouldering. Probably a couple of *someones* would. Have fun there. I'm sure it'll be warmer than what we've got.

Fella
Came across your blog by chance but delighted I found it. As a teacher I can't express myself with your clarity, knowledge and confidence but I often seem to travel the same way as your constant reflection. As readers we all approach reading from different starting points (is this schema?). I agree that we should provide a variety of reading texts (especially to boys) as early as possible. Indeed, if we are to teach reading strategies to children at an early stage (prior knowledge, visualisation, questioning, inference, summarisation etc etc) we must have a wide selection of reading resources available. Interest and purpose is everything - what's in it for me? Keep on reflecting Doug.
